Teen pregnancy rates have recently been on the rise across the UK despite measures by the government medical professionals and community interest groups to lower these levels. No one is entirely certain why this happening, but whether a teen becomes pregnant by choice or buy chance it is obvious that she/he needs information to help him/her decide about the future. So we know that teenage pregnancy is a topical issue and is something that girls and boys have to address every single day, making my film relevant to cover some of the issues that they may face.

Another Change

Unfortunately my friends who i was going to have as actresses are unavailable to due a busy schedule with their own 6th form and college work. So consequently I have had to come up with a completely new idea.

My new idea is about a teenage girl who finds out she is pregnant. She's a 6th former in her last year and is planning to go to uni in september to do chemistry. She's an intelligent girl and very pretty.

She's been with her boyfriend for just over 16 months when she finds out she is pregnant. Her mother and father are very strict and her main worry is that they will react badly, not want to help and maybe even kick her out. She's also worrying about how her boyfriend will react, this is the first serious relationship she's had and she is completely infatuated by him.

Juno Opening

Mise-en-scene

The opening goes into a cartoon of the character Juno and she's walking through her town past various different places. The cartoon view of all the houses and shops etc are pretty colourless which could suggest that her life is a little empty and boring which will then lead on to something outstanding happening in the film which will change everything.

Hints

Subtle hints are used throughout the opening of what is going to happen and who will be involved. For example at several points at the start where we see runners in the shots, and from watching the film I know there is a runner as a main character in Juno. Also when she is walking around she walks past a baby shop with teddybears etc in the windows which could make us think there will be a baby.

Costume

First impressions count! I think that when you see a character for the first time you get an immediate impression of what they are like. Juno is dressed in jeans and a jumper, this shows that she's not really a girly girl and perhaps isn't really that bothered what other people think of her. She's walking around with a big bottle of Sunny D and seems fairly happy.

Sister Sister

This is the T.V show Sister Sister from which I got my idea from. Sister, Sister is an American television sitcom about identical twin girls Tia and Tamera Mowry. Separated and adopted at birth, who one day come face-to-face after 14 years apart.

Ideas

From my film ideas I have decided that the best one of the 3 would be the twins idea. I got this idea from a T.V programme I used to watch called 'Sister Sister.' It's a programme which started off finding out that two girls that had never met before were in fact sisters and were adopted by different parents at birth. It then goes on to a long series of events with the sisters living together with their parents.
I plan to use 2 of my friends who are non-identical twins, Amy and Alice Clarke and they are both 18. One is going to be very sporty and the other smart and I plan to some how incorporate that into the first couple of minutes. This is my story board in text form so far:

There is a split screen, Ali on one side and Amy on the other. They are in bed in their rooms and the alarm clock goes off (same time showing on the clock.) They both press the alarm off and begin to fall asleep when their names get shouted for them to wake up. They both shout "I'm UUUPPPPP!!"
Once they are up we see them sleepily walking to the toilet and shutting the door behind them going in in their pj's and coming out fully dressed. (Their clothes will be similar but worn differently)
Then they are both looking in the mirror but looking as if they are facing each other whilst they are brushing their teeth, they do the same actions while brushing and gargle and spit at the same time.
They walk out the door but they both forget something they run back in and grab something off the side. One shouts "Byyeee Muummmm" and the other shouts "Byyeee Daadddd."
I'll then have them both walking down a street and they are about to catch each others eye when they both get distracted by something. The title then flashes up: 'Twins'

Change of mind!

I've changed my mind, I've now decided that I want to do a film now instead of a magazine. I've thought of some ideas for a film and thought about which piece I feel i could do my best in and the outcome was to do the film.

So far I've come up with a couple of ideas:

1. Set in a school, 4 girls who are best friends, all different stereotypes. We get introduced to them in the start of the film, they are a chav, a goth, nerd and a cheerleader. See them getting ready in all their different types of clothes and make-up etc. seeing the difference between the 4 of them but similarities also.

2. There are 2 girls, who are twins (not identical), separated at birth but don't know each other exist. Show a routine of the girls in the morning, how they do the same things, have the same routine as each other. They pass in the street and are about to look at each other when the other gets distracted.

3. 5 friends in a car, driving along music loud going out to a party. See them walking out the door to start with getting out of the car. When in the car, one girl says to slow down as the roads are icy, the girl driving says that she knows what she is doing she's been driving for a month now. The car starts to spin and go off the road... blackout and screams.

My favourite idea of these 3 is the twins one, i have some friends who are twins and I'm sure they would be happy to help me as they both took drama at GCSE and both enjoy acting.

My aim in the next couple of weeks is to get done my prliminary task, ask people a few questions about what films they enjoy and find out some more general information from other people.

I've designed a few questions which i will ask members of the 6th form and record their answers on the camera.

1. Do you watch a lot of films?

2. What genre of film is your favourite?

3. Do you feel the music in a film helps to create different moods in the film?

4. Do you prefere to have a male or female as leading role or do you not have a preference?

5. Do you like to get an idea of what might happen in the film within the first couple of minutes?

Once I have asked a few people these questions i will then upload them to my blog, this will help me decide the genre etc. of my film.

I need to make a to-do list to get me started with my preliminary task!

- Design a questionnaire to find out what kind of things people expect to see in a music magazine and also what they would like to see
- Actually get people to do the questionnaire and analyse the data
- Spider diagram of all posible ideas and select the best ones
- Meanwhile think up some ideas for school mag (spider diagram or listings)
- Arrange people to be in both magazines

1. What do you want to achieve by doing the practical production work?
I would like to be able to use photoshop and other programmes on the computer to design a magazine.

Maddy's work shows that she has been able to manipulate pictures and text to give an attractive look to her magazine. Using the different techniques from photoshop and other adobe programmes she has produced an appealing magazine and designed it to target a certain audience.
4. Response to tasks.
Print - I think I will do the print task, I like the idea of being able to come up with new ideas and put the into a magazine. I have a few ideas already for the preliminary exercise and the main exercise and look forward to producing both.
Video - I've decided against doing the video exercise as I don't feel confident enough to work with the video cameras and feel my end product would be better as the magazine.

Good use of sound within the piece, it built up tension and fear of what was to happen next. However it cam across to me to be more of a trailor than an opening.
'The case'

The starting was awful... the sound of the footsteps was not in time with the person walking, I didn't understand what was going on whatsoever. Everything seemed unrealistic like the acting whilst 'on the phone' and why was he laying down in the field for. also the writing on thew piece of paper seemed a bit silly... should have been printed at least. Editing was simple and no manipulation of mise-en-scene.

The front cover seem pretty colourless, you can't see the full title and all together look a bit messy and unorganised. However the manipulation of images is good and the double page spread is eye catching and easy to read compared to the contents page.
'PM'

The cover has a lot of energy and very colourful, it's eye catching and looking interesting. Although there are some parts of the text which are difficult to read it is a very attractive front cover. The contents pages looks very hectic and again difficult to read. The pictures at the bottom stand out as they are in black and white but look slightly odd. The double page spread is bright again and easier to read. I like how the images are centered and text put around it and you can see straight away what the piece is about and who it's about.
'The Beat'
This magazine was given 57 marks out of 60. The magazine has a certain look running all the way through, the cover, contents page and double page spread is easy to read and images are manipulated to fit with the text. The front cover looks more professional, they are linking in with the mise-en-scene of the picture and have manipulated both images and text to connect with each other. Contents pages looks more interesting and realistic, it shows a picture of 'Domination' which is on the double page spread. The contents page also hasn't been cluttered up with extra bits and things that aren't really needed. The double page spread again looks professional, carrying on the music theme with the band in and it looks attractive and eye catching. I personally would want to buy this magazine as it looks interesting etc.
